    Grammar in the curriculum

The purpose of grammar in the primary curriculum is to enable children use their limited vocabulary to build good language habits. This is to be done by encouraging children to make their own observations and analysis of the language as they hear it or read it. These observations, aided by repeated usage of the language will result in correct usage of language.

Errors that existed in children’s speech when they entered school will persist if sustained efforts are not made by the teacher. These efforts include motivation; exposure to correct usage; repeating correct usage but not allowing incorrect forms to take root. This last task calls for consistently putting the correct form into practical use.
