Small is Beautiful [294 KB]
E. F. Schumacher
This thought-provoking book maintains that Man's pursuit of profit and progress, which promotes giant organisations and increased specialization, has in fact resulted in gross economic inefficiency, environmental pollution and inhuman working conditions. Schumacher proposes more sensible alternatives.

Good Work [135 KB]
E. F. Schumacher
Good Work is an exploration of the political, managerial, social, and economic consequences of conventional technology (and therefore of conventional values), and of alternatives that are already becoming visible: alternatives that in one way or another support the three purposes of human work identified by Schumacher. The three purposes being: to produce necessary and useful goods and services; to enable us to use and perfect our gifts and skills; and to serve, and collaborate with, other people, so as to "liberate ourselves from our inborn egocentricity."
