ICT 01: Technology Tools

We can begin this course by providing a formal definition of ICT, speak about the potential ICT has for education and then describe how these potentials can be realised. Instead, we plan to do the reverse. Examine some ICT tools with the express intent of discovering their relevance to education. We hope this discovery will help us, gradually, to define ICT in education.

The tools we set out to examine are all free tools –they can be freely downloaded from the internet or can be made available on CDs. These tools will require the Windows Operating System – the only proprietary software you need to have.

While examining a tool, we look at its features, discuss its advantages and limitations for education, compare it with similar tools if available and also provide a tutorial on using the tool.
