Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha has a long history of use as a very important medicinal plant both in Ayurveda and other traditional Indian medicine.

Ashwagandha in Sanskrit means "horse's smell", probably because of the sweaty horse odour of its root.

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is a stout, erect, branched shrub that grows prolifically in India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. The plant belonging to the same family as tomatoes, bears greenish or very pale yellow flowers. The fruit is a berry, green to begin with and turns red on ripening.

All parts of the plant are used for medicinal purposes, however the root is more extensively used.
