Openbilled Stork

Living near water bodies, the Open-billed stork can be found amongst other storks, herons, and egrets. Among the smaller of the storks, this is a white or greyish white bird, with black in the wings.

The bills are reddish black and the black in its wings is very conspicuous. It is distinguished by its arching mandibles which leaves a narrow open gap between them. Hence the name, open billed.

Open-billed Storks' food consists of frogs, crabs, large insects and other smaller animals. The open bill probably helps in breaking open the thick shells of snails, which form a large proportion of the stork's food.
