Cormorants are wetland birds and can be found in all inland waters bodies. Easily identifiable features are their colour--glistening black; its general shape--duck-like with a longish stiff tail; its beak--slender, compressed and sharply hooked at the tip. The beak is also tooth-edged, helping it to grip fish which is its main food. They chase fish under water, catching it with their beak. It is also reported to play with its prey like a cat does with a mouse, before devouring it. These birds can be often seen spreading their wings to dry themselves after a plunge in water. They are found in groups and also in company of other water birds like egrets, spoonbills, etc.
